Plans have been approved for the exciting regeneration of a site close to Loughborough railway station.
Solus Homes Ltd had submitted a planning application for a mix of residential, office, retail and leisure uses at the Morley Street site previously occupied by 3M. The plans have now been approved by the Borough Council.
As a gateway site which is on the Nottingham Road and rail station approach to central Loughborough, the proposed development is a clear indication of confidence in investing in Loughborough. It will help create new employment opportunities, boost the local economy and provide new options for people looking to take modern, qulaity commercial space in the town. Boasting new office space close to the mainline railway, it is expected that the development will prove very popular with potential occupiers.
The redevelopment of site - but which will retain and integrate the old mill and its famous chimney into the new townscape - has been facilitated by businesses choosing to commit to Charnwood and Loughborough as a great location for commercial activity. 3M vacated the site to move to the high-class facilities available at Charnwood Campus in the town, whilst Preci-Spark Ltd has confirmed its commitment to the town by being able to work with Solus to utilise a portion of the former 3M site.
Granting of planning permission is an important milestone in a process that has brought a number of businesses and agencies together to work towards further improving the local economy and built environment.
